Coastal Walks L'Empordà

One of the special features of the Empordà is the network of paths. They are paths that run along the coast and have been used for various purposes throughout history: to get to the coves if a ship was sinking, to watch the horizon to prevent pirate raids and even contraband after the Spanish Civil War. Now you can walk along them and peacefully enjoy the coastal landscape and get to the hidden coves where other daily events used to take place.
However, some other beaches along our coast have been equipped to better suit the needs of bathers - showers, bars, sun-lounger hire - and to offer more activities, volleyball and football nets have been installed… and so have petanque courts. In summer, tourist offices organise a host of activities for the whole family and especially for children, on beaches and in villages alike.
The paths that run along the coast mainly follow signed trails marked according to international rules, including long routes (GR), short routes (PR), local trails (SL) and Itinerànnia. The tourist offices of the Empordà have additional information and will kindly help you with any questions and suggestions.
